Eric Wells has worked in all facets of the group insurance side of employee benefits. Eric, now with over two decades of experience in the insurance industry, started as a Service Representative with Jefferson Pilot in 1989. After training under one of the most respected programs in the group insurance industry, Eric moved into a sales position in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and was promoted to Richmond, Virginia.
Eric left Jefferson Pilot four years later to serve as the Regional Group Manager with Mid-South Insurance Company. In this position, Eric successfully opened an office for Mid-South in the previously undeveloped territory of South Carolina and Georgia. In addition to his consulting responsibilities, Eric built and managed a staff of sales and service employees in Columbia, SC.
During his employment with Mid-South, Eric reported directly to the President of the organization and worked closely with underwriters. Eric had many diverse rolls and responsibilities from sales and service to managed care negotiations and provider network building. This background gives Eric a well-rounded understanding of the insurance carrier and the medical provider perspective on health insurance. These experiences are valuable when acting as an advocate for employers and employees.
In 1999, Eric accepted a position of Employee Benefits Manager for a Regional Agency. Here, Eric managed a division having eleven employees and was responsible for providing employee benefits services to clients throughout the Southeast. During the time Eric worked in this position, the employee benefits division exceeded expectations for new revenue and sales, subsequently leading the company in these areas.
Eric served as President for the Columbia Association of Health Underwriters (CAHU) for two years, CAHU is an organization made up of his professional peers, contemporaries, and competitors. Eric served on the CAHU Board of Directors for over seven years and has been on the State Board of South Carolina Association of Health Underwriters (SCAHU) for fourteen years. During Eric's tenure on the SCAHU Board, he served in many positions including State President. Eric regularly attends the Capitol Conference in Washington, DC where he discusses health insurance and employee benefits issues with elected officials.
Areas of specialty include group life insurance, health insurance, disability insurance, fully insured, alternate funding and self-funding arrangements, retirement and 401(k) plans, employee communication, dental, and voluntary/supplemental insurance benefits. Eric has consistently been at the top for sales including personal production and overall office production and growth throughout his career in the insurance and benefits field.
One of the three Southeastern Insurance Consultants, Eric currently serves on the Board of Trustees at Newberry College, is President of the Newberry College Athletic Club, and is a Board member of Camp Kemo.
